Hey everyone!
Today I am going to talk about some of my favorite face packs for oily and acne prone skin. I’ve had breakout prone, blemished skin for years now and while I’ve been able to take control of it to some extent, it still breaks out incessantly (underlying hormonal issues at play here). I also have a really oily T-zone which makes summers a terrible time for my skin with breakouts, oiliness, dullness and congestion. Face masks are a saviour when it comes to keeping my skin looking clean, smooth, fresh with minimal breakouts and today I’m sharing 5 great face masks that help with that. If you have oily or breakout prone skin or skin that gets congested and just a bit grimy in the summers, you’ll find these recommendations helpful!
Avene Cleanance Mask (Rs 1200)
This is one of my favorite masks for when my skin is breaking out horribly. Its an exfoliating mask that deep cleanses the skin and helps in reducing breakouts. I apply a thin layer of this (since its not exactly cheap!) either all over the face or only on the affected areas which for me is generally the nose, chin and jawline. I keep it on for at least 10 minutes or more sometimes. It dries quickly but can tingle a little if you’re breaking out but it hasn’t ever left my skin red or irritated. The creamy base has some grainy bits (not too many though) that give a bit of scrubbing action when you wash it off. This mask helps in calming the skin, helps in shrinking breakouts and leaves the skin clean and glowing. Highly recommend this for oily/acne-prone/congested skin.
Forest Essentials Multani Mitti Ubtan (Rs 595)
This is an excellent face pack for both oily and acne prone skin types. I generally use this ubtan pack mixed with cold pressed Aloe Vera Juice from Kama Ayurveda or cold yogurt and let it dry on the skin for 10-15 minutes. You can get some mild exfoliation by massaging the pack as you rinse it off after it has dried. This makes my skin really really clean and really smooth and soft. It gets rid of all excess oil, dirt, grime and dead skin and just renews my skin. It also helps in drying out breakouts and can be used as a daily cleanser for really acne prone skin. It doesn’t dry my skin especially when used with yogurt and I highly recommend this to everyone for the summers.
The Body Shop Blue Corn 3-in-1 Deep Cleansing Mask (Rs 1095)
This is a deep cleansing, exfoliating, purifying clay based mask that is densely packed with exfoliating, grainy particles. It has a pale blue color and a light scent that I can’t figure out (not unpleasant though) and feels cooling/tingly on the skin when you put it on. This is excellent for normal to oily skin as it doesn’t dry the skin but really helps cleanse the skin thoroughly. Being packed with scrubbing bits, this gives more exfoliation than the previous two masks so if your skin gets very congested (blocked pores, blackheads), this would be a good mask for you. It also helps in shrinking breakouts like all other clay based masks.
Kama Ayurveda Lavanya Face Mask (Rs 395)
This mask comes is a fine powder pack in a small tin with a wooden spatula. I use this mixed with cold pressed Aloe Vera Juice, also from Kama Ayurveda. The pack forms a very fine paste when mixed with water or aloe vera juice and dries pretty quickly. But the recommended usage is 20-30 minutes so I keep this one for weekends. I’ve found that this is a nice mask for cleansing and refreshing the skin but you need to keep it on for that long otherwise it doesn’t seem to do much. It doesn’t dry out the skin, doesn’t tingle or cause stinging (but it could, according to the packaging) and helps in controlling breakouts. The product is 100% natural, not tested on animals and free from preservatives, fragrances, colourants and petrochemicals. It doesn’t feel as strong as some of the others listed in this post so best for those with only slightly problematic skin without major issues.
Oilcraft Naturals Mridul Anti Acne Face Pack (Rs 400)
Now this is a mask I would recommend for people with really oily and breakout prone skin. This is the real deal when it comes to battling oiliness and pimples. It contains a host of natural ingredients that are known to be effective against acne and oiliness – lemon, neem, tea tree oil and nutmeg & clove oils. I’ve found this mask to a bit drying on my combination skin but it does help in shrinking angry breakouts. This is also the most pocket friendly option of all the masks mentioned here – 70 g for Rs 400. Try this out if you have really problematic skin!
